Allergies Revealed

We got a call from the Dr. today. My son had blood taken on Friday to see what he is allergic to. The results from the test told us that he is allergic to milk, eggs, peanuts and wheat.

I went through my food today, and lets just say that most of my food has been returned to Publix and I will be changing my eating habits (since I am nursing). You know one of the first things that went through my mind? What type of cake do you make the poor kid for his first birthday and who in the world would want to eat it? :)

Hopefully, he will outgrow these allergies by age 3 or 4. I have been making phone calls to friends who are dealing with these types of allergies with their children. I have a lot to learn.

  1. Hi, I'm a friend of Joe and Katrina's from Charlottesville and saw your blog entry on their blog. My nephew is allergic to the same things and I have an awesome chocolate cake recipe for you. Email me and I'll send it to you.

  2. Rachel, I am so sorry you are having to battle this. It has been a struggle for us since Connor was 3 months old. Knowing what to feed them is so frustrating. I am still learning too since we just found out that he is allergic to wheat, etc. I am going to a dietician this Tuesday and I will be glad to pass along any information I find out from her. There is some cereal at Publix called Puffin's that is wheat free. Connor likes it pretty well, but obviously this doesnt solve all of our problems. Our poor little guys! I have a cake recipe for you too. It came out pretty well. The icing was the hardest thing for me since it tasted crummy because you couldnt use butter. My advice is to use some butter flavoring and it will probably be Ok. We need to have a play date to talk about all of this in person!
